Keep your Apple Notes private by locking certain Notes behind a separate password.
There are some notes you might save on your iPhone in the Notes app that you don’t want to fall into the wrong hands. For example, you might have notes about your finances, passwords, or big ideas.
Luckily, you can lock those private notes from the Apple Notes app using a password, Face ID, or Touch ID. And it’s super easy to do.
How to Create an Apple Notes Password
Before you begin, you’ll want to check what version of iOS is installed on your iPhone. You will want the latest version to be able to properly use the lock feature.
It’s also important to note that the lock feature only works on notes saved on your iPhone or synced to iCloud. It doesn’t lock notes synced through Gmail, for example.
First, you will need to create an Apple Notes password. The easiest way to do this is to use the Apple Notes app. Follow these steps:
- Open the note you want to lock inside Apple notes.
- Select the Continued (…) then select Lock.
- Set a password, then re-enter it in To verify.
- Add a password hint.
- If you want to use Face ID or Touch ID (if available), turn on the switch.
- Finally, select Ended.
