Newcastle are looking for Watford’s Ismaila Sarr after transfer talks with the winger’s agent have already taken place.
Newcastle are looking to draft a host of new signings when the window opens. Many names have already been linked and Sarr is known to be on the radar. Indeed, reports earlier in the month claimed Newcastle had Sarr high on their wanted list.
It was around this time that Newcastle officials reportedly held talks with Sarr’s agent. FootballTransfers report that the Magpies met Saif Rubie in London last month.
Rubie is also Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger’s agent. A new centre-back is high on Newcastle’s list of targets, but Rudiger has not been the subject of conversation. Eddie Howe would no doubt like to have him on board but a move to Real Madrid has been agreed.
Instead, it’s Sarr that Newcastle are keen on onboarding. Watford are heading for relegation from the Premier League and Sarr looks certain to move on.
The Hornets will have to cut their fabric accordingly and it is inevitable that players will leave. Sarr seems to be one of his team’s most in-demand players.
Newcastle would face competition to secure a deal. Liverpool have been linked for a long time with a swoop for the winger. They will be looking to bolster their ranks this summer and Sarr is on the radar.
Reports in Italy have also suggested AC Milan are ‘very interested’ in the player.
Sarr himself was recently questioned about the whole conversation and played it with a straight bat. The Senegal international claimed the links were just rumors and he remained in the dark.
However, with Watford heading towards the Championship, he may be thinking about his next step. And staying in the Premier League would be an attractive proposition. During talks with Rubie, Newcastle learned that Watford would be looking £40 million.
Newcastle could sign much worse
Howe has a new striker and centre-back on his wanted list. But a new winger is also wanted and Sarr could be a good option for the Magpies boss.
At just 24 years old, Sarr has a good age and still has his best years ahead of him. £40million could prove to be a cut if he continues to fulfill his potential.
He has now spent three seasons in the Premier League and has adapted well. The fact that he has proven himself in the top flight will be a big plus for Newcastle.
Sarr has made 91 appearances and scored 24 goals. He’s a threat going forward and it’s no surprise Newcastle are keen. A slight area of concern might be injuries. Sarr has been plagued by knee and hamstring injuries this season. Even so, he has proven himself in England and if he stays fit will be a great addition to Newcastle’s ranks.
