Schoolgirl inspires show home design in Newbury housing estate

A young competition winner recently saw his bedroom design come to life in a new show home in Newbury.

Abi Hick, 12, has been announced as the winner of an interior design competition organized by developer David Wilson Homes.

As part of the creative competition in 2020, pupils from St Gabriel’s School in Newbury showed off their talents by creating bedroom designs suitable for a modern show home.

Abi’s bedroom design, which features a hot air balloon theme, was selected as the winning entry by the developer, earning Abi an art set and a £50 book voucher prize.

The winning design was also implemented in one of the bedrooms in the Holden show home in David Wilson Homes’ Donnington Heights development.

Abi’s mother, Lucy Venables, said: “Abi’s initial design inspiration was clouds and their connection to dreams. She thought it would be nice for the child who chooses this room to imagine themselves floating through the clouds in a hot air balloon while they go to sleep.
